Jean Legault, Ph. D., President

Jean Legault earned a Master and Doctorate degrees in molecular and cell biology from the Centre Hospitalier de l’Université Laval. During his graduate studies, he worked mainly on cellular antioxidant systems, and DNA damage. He completed a first postdoctoral training in molecular pharmacology at Hôpital Saint-François d’Assise in Quebec, and a second one in drug development at the preclinical stage at the Institut national de la santé et de la recherche médicale in France (INSERM Clermont-Ferrand / English: French Institute of Health and Medical Research).

Since 2002, Dr. Jean Legault is a professor and researcher at the Université du Québec à Chicoutimi where he teaches biochemistry, pharmacology, and medicine. He is also an associate professor at the Faculté of medicine at Université de Sherbrooke. He has published more than eighty scientific papers focusing mainly on the biological activity of naturally derived products, particularly on their anti-cancer, antibiotic, antiviral, antioxidant, and anti-inflammatory activities.

Over the last few years, he dedicated his work to the development of active ingredients for the cosmetology industry. Specifically, and in order to assess the efficiency of active ingredients, he developed and is still developing detailed characterization approaches for the desired biological activities, such as the stimulation of the biosynthesis of biomolecules that are of decisive importance in the epidermis (collagen, involucrin, etc.), the antioxidant effect in many contexts, etc.
